Tanis Bean
Owner & Director

Tanis Bean has been the Owner & Director of The Dance Academy, Ltd. in Elm Grove for 35 years. Miss Tanis holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and a Degree in Business Administration Management, receiving high honors for both. She is a member,  past Treasurer and the current President of Dance Masters of Wisconsin. She is also a member, graduate and has master's certification from Chicago National Association of Dance Masters. She has Elementary Certification from the New York Institute of Labanotation and is also certified by Dr. Paul Ward and the Health and Tennis Corporation of America.

 

Her involvement through conventions and workshops have allowed her to study under such dance notables as prima ballerina - Kelsey Kirkland, Fred Kelly - teacher and brother of Gene Kelly and Gus Giordano - world renowned jazz artist as well as others who have pushed the dance movement forward. Through the years, Miss Tanis has taught dance for many organizations, has been a choreographer for competitions, musicals and show choirs, a pageant and competition judge and consultant.

In addition to regularly scheduled classes, the studio participates in workshops, competitions, pageants, community performances & events and High Interest Days. Staff and students of The Dance Academy, Ltd. have received many national and state honors. The Dance Academy, Ltd. has also had the honor to be the home of Miss Dance Masters of Wisconsin for the years of 1999, 2000, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2012. 

Alicia DeLaney started dancing at the age of 2 1/2 at her grandmothers dance studio in Mukwonago, WI.  Alicia eventually owned and operated the studio for many years. She is a member of Dance Masters of Wisconsin, Inc. where  she serves as an Assistant to the Board and serves on the Anniversary, Competition, Marketing and Safety & Protocol Committee. Alicia is also a member in good standing at Chicago National Association of Dance Masters, where she earned her Certified Dance Educators License in 2005. Alicia teaches a variety of dancers from ages 2 thru adult and has completed examinations in ballet, tap and jazz.  Alicia continues to update her training at workshops and conventions throughout the year to bring her students the newest styles and best training.

Corrie Golembiewski began teaching dance at The Dance Academy, Ltd. twenty two years ago.  She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.  She has studied ballet, pointe, tap, jazz and contemporary.  Corrie attended many workshops and conventions as a way to further her dance education throughout the years. Some of her favorite experiences from those events-including meeting teachers, trying new dance styles and learning choreography from some famous names in dance-have truly shaped who she is today. Corrie has received numerous dance awards, including the Achievement Award at the studio.  She was also the very first Miss Dance Masters of Wisconsin winner and went on to receive the Teachers Plaque as several of her students won the pageant in later years.  Corrie enjoys teaching children and adults of all ages.  She believes that dance training is very beneficial and that it can be an asset to anyone regardless of what path their life takes.

 

 

Evan Knutson has been serving southern Wisconsin communities since 2005 when he began his teaching career. Coming from one local studio, Evan has grown his practice to share his love of dance in several studios across the Midwest.  His choreography has won awards at local and regional competitions, but he’s most passionate about helping artists discover their voices.  As an accredited member of Dance Masters of Wisconsin (DMW) by examination, Evan continues to shape his personal style by attending Master classes regularly. Evan has also served the DMW community by teaching several Hip Hop Master classes. Evan serves on the Board of Directors for the Center of Christian Arts where he choreographs musicals and children's shows. Evan’s most recent work includes performing and choreographing for Sparrow Dance Company’s show Classic Rock. Evan will again be choreographing and performing in Sparrow’s Summer show for his fifth season. 

 

 

Abby Skowronski first began her dance training in her hometown, Tomah, WI at Marilyn School of Dance for 14 years. Here she built her foundation in tap, jazz, hip-hop, and modern dance, with an emphasis in ballet and pointe technique. Now in her third year, at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, contemporary dance has become her main focus. Abby is currently pursuing a BFA in Contemporary Performance and Choreography. She  has danced in multiple shows throughout the years, including Gabrielle De Kok’s senior project in the fall of 2015. She made her faculty choreographed repertoire debut in 2017 performing in two Darci Wutz works and most recently danced in a Simone Ferro repertoire in 2018.

Abby was a member of the Panther Dance Team, a collegiate dance team that not only cheers on the men and women’s basketball teams, but also competes on a national level once a year in Orlando, Florida. The rigor and intensity of training with this team greatly expanded her jazz and hip-hop ability.

Abby is a former Miss Dance Masters of Wisconsin and enjoys working with students of all ages.

Sarah Sudbury is originally from Tomahawk, Wisconsin, where she studied dance for over 12 years at Terry Buccaro’s Dance Studio in Tomahawk, Dorinda’s Dance Studio in Merrill and The Northwoods School of Dance in Rhinelander.  She was a member, an Assistant Dance Teacher and helped choreograph routines for the Tomahawk High School Dance team while in high school. 

Sarah received a Division 1 full athletic scholarship to St. John's University in New York City for cross country and track.  She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications with Minors in Business and Journalism. Sarah was a Graduate Assistant for the St. John's University cross country/track program and pursued a Masters degree on full scholarship.  She graduated with a Masters of Business Administration in International Business in May 2014.  While in New York, she coached 9-18 year olds the fundamentals of running and competition. After graduation Sarah moved back to the Midwest and was hired at Trusted Media Brands Inc. (formerly known as Reader’s Digest) as a data analyst. 

"It was a privilege to meet and work with so many instructors, students, and parents from The Dance Academy, Ltd., this past year. I was welcomed with open arms. My teaching philosophy is to challenge young dancers to perfect their technique and truly enjoy the art of dance.  I am eager to begin my fifth year of teaching at The Dance Academy, Ltd. and to continue working with our talented young dancers! Running and dance have always been Sarah's passions.

Ashley Toth started The Dance Academy, Ltd.'s "Live The Dream" Dance Competition Team. She was a student of The Dance Academy, Ltd. from the age of 2, a demonstrator and substitute teacher, until she graduated from high school in 2004. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin Madison where she also enrolled in elective dance classes for fun. Her favorite dance class in college was an African Dance Performance class that she took three semesters in a row!  She completed her Masters of Accounting in 2011 at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and earned her CPA shortly after graduating. She currently works at PricewaterhouseCoopers where she is a senior associate in the assurance practice. In addition to coaching the dance team at The Dance Academy, Ltd., she also coaches the varsity dance team at Brookfield East High School - the Spartanettes.

Jennifer Toth started dancing at age 3, studying a wide variety of styles and techniques, including classical ballet, tap, modern and jazz. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance.  She also holds a Wisconsin Teaching License in both Secondary Dance and Mathematics and has a Master of Science degree in Education. During her senior year of college, Jenny studied the Cunningham Modern Technique with Susie Bauer and danced professionally with the Bauer Dance Ensemble here in Milwaukee.

Jenny has taught dance for the Metropolitan Arts Program at UWM, the Bauer Dance Studio and the Elm Grove Park and Recreation Department. She has choreographed award-winning numbers for the Hartland Arrowhead Show Choir for several years.  Jenny has also choreographed numerous musicals at area high schools such as Milwaukee High School of the Arts, Arrowhead and Brookfield East. While teaching at Milwaukee High School of the Arts, Jenny founded and directed the Tour de Force Dance Company for ten years. She traveled to Edinburg, Scotland where her students performed in the American High School Theater Festival.  Jenny currently teaches math at Brookfield East High School and coaches the BEHS Spartanette Dance Team. This is Jenny’s 36th year with The Dance Academy, Ltd.
